young and jackson - flinders street melbourne

i never would have thought that a pub on the corner of flinders and swanston street would serve edible food. i mean, they're next to mcdonalds and hungry jacks. you can meet the weirdo of your dreams. did i mention the picture of the naked chick upstairs? there's a picture of a naked chick upstairs. there, i mentioned it. the naked chick is quite famous - but for some reason she has no body hair. who would have though that the brazilian was available in the 19th century.

service was, em, overly attentive. that's a euphemism for annoying and interrupting. she tried, so hard. but when someone interrupts you three times to ask what you want to drink... maybe i'm being a little harsh here. the service was ok, our waitress really did well in spite of our demands.

that said, the food was awesome. kangaroo, pork, pasta - all very very good. and the tapas as a starter was just great. the wine selection was great. i am a sucker for good bread, as you probably already know, and they did not disappoint. the view from the window on the drunks in flinders street was like being in a goldfish bowl, amusing but detached from the peasants below. i really enjoyed dinner. had to send the coffee back because a macchiato apparently is a bucket of coffee. it's a sin to be in melbourne and not know what a good coffee is. anyway, i swapped it for a short black and all was well.

all good, nice food, good view, yay.
