lulo bar de vino - 798 glenferrie road hawthorn 3122 9818 8321

lets face it, describing themselves as a 'bar de vino' (who here speaks spanish, i'm not quite sure what that means) is a strong enticement to visit lulo. and i do like a business that gives hours like '5.30pm to late'. it leaves the night open to all kinds of possibilities. like vino. esta mui importante, no? it's always been packed around 9 (a common hour for dinner in spain) so we went much earlier to make sure we got a table.

lulo is a spanish and latinamerican restaurant in the middle of hawthorn village. i'd have to say its more spanish with photos of barcelona on the walls and an extensive tapas menu. everything we tried was great but i especially recommend the grilled ribs. we had to go back for seconds of those. and of course the obligatory spanish donuts with jam and chocolate sauces earned high scores from the young diners. those crazy straight-donut spaniards!!

lulo's is a friendly place with great staff, great food and great wine. it feels strangely incomplete without swearing in a review so let me finish by saying i fucking loved it. there, i feel so much better. life is good.

  1. totally different staff, totally different service and three slices of cheese for 20 bucks!! what the fuck?!! wafer thin cheese and nuts laughingly called a 'cheese platter'. in fairness, we did point out the overall lack of, well, cheeseness about the plate and they did bring us another serve free of charge...but why should we have to? donuts were still just as good as before. now, if i could just get my fucking coffee without having to ask twice...
