tho tho vietnamese bar and restaurant - 66 victoria st richmond 3121 9428 5900

when you've spent a good 45 minutes driving down sydney road looking for a thai restaurant, and not having any success, you should just give up and head to tho tho's. or at least, that's what we did. i'm not sure if the thai place ever existed along sydney road... thai.. i guess it could possibly sound a bit like turkish... or at least it does start with the same letter... could we have been just a little confused?

of course, you could try lygon street, but the passengers in your back seat may just bitch and complain long enough that you'll be forced to go to victoria street regardless.

victoria street is a haven for the vietnamese cuisine connoisseur and tho tho's is at the top of the list. bustling and noisy with good, fast, cheap food and flagons (yes, flagons, of wine- how can you go past them?!) naturally they have byo, but unless you're a snob, go with the flagons- they're much more fun. the menu is extensive and features everything you'd expect from a victoria street veteran. we ordered food galore (the only way to do vietnamese) from omelettes and beef satay to fried rice and spring rolls- everything rocks here.

it's vietnamese though, so if it's someone's birthday (and it always is) then expect to be roped into singing happy birthday whilst the unsuspecting guest of honour is presented with profiteroles in the shape of a penis. just a warning.

anyway, take your friends and try to shout louder than the people at the next table.
