ginters bar and restaurant - 5 rae street fitzroy north 3068 9489 1974

you can always have fish. even if you are a pesca ova lacto vegetarian. you want me to say all that again? i don't think so. but it's nice to know that the world doesn't revolve totally around mcdonalds or the nearest steakhouse. don't get me wrong. i love a thick steak as much as the next bovinus carnivarian. it's just once in a while, a nice piece of fish just hits the spot.

there's a bit of a story behind our trip to ginters. or should i say gingers. i probably should because, thanks to telstra, the booking i made was to gingers, not ginters. so we turn up at ginters and they, quite rightly, look at us with blank faces. gingers were probably standing outside looking equally blank 'where are they?' 'they said they'd be here'. kudos to the chick at ginters who got us a table even though everyone else had booked two weeks ago. suckers!!

ginters has a pretty high bar to measure up to. the fish house in south yarra is about the best fish place i know. the best oysters (yummo) and the best blackened trevally. ginters did deliver in the fish area - line ball with the fish house. but, the fish house still kicks butt with the best oysters. i'm not putting ginters down here. the fish was top notch. the oysters were a little small. they were good, but small. nice, but tiny. you see where i'm going with this. dessert was a killer - death by chocolate. i could have done without it but it was too good.

here's where i put ginters down. four fucking hours to have dinner?! what the fuck?!! i like a long, drawn out dinner as much as the next person. it's just that we were hungry and it took a half hour to get the menu.

in conclusion, don't go to ginters if you are seriously hungry. you'll love the food but maybe not enough to leave teeth marks in the table.
