soul mama - st kilda seabaths 10-18 jacka boulevard st kilda 3182 9525 3338
the vibes coming off this place are so cool, man. and one less cow was needlessly slaughtered because i had the polenta. maybe you can take this veggie thing a little too far. while i love vegetarian food and i agree that animals consume way too much of our resources (greedy bastards), i do like a good steak once in a while. see the review on squire's loft. sweet, sweet meat. ahem. sorry.
if you are looking for good vegetarian food or you like a glass of wine with a view of the beach at st kilda. or if you're one of those people who want the good vegetarian food and a glass of wine with a view of the beach, soul mama is way cool. it's located in the st kilda baths. you know, the building that was going to be a bath house, then a retail complex. then a sports centre...and then a bath house again. now it's a sports centre with restaurants and bars. and it only took 30 years of stuffing around.
there is no menu. you decide how hungry you are ranging from peckish, to hungry to famished and then select the size of dish you would like. the food is served either in bowls or, military style, in mess trays. yesssss, saaaahhh, mr sergeant major, saaaahhh! you can mix and match, whatever you like. just don't change tables or they get shitty. and if you get there and have to wait for a table, you might even get to sit on the futon beds with a glass of wine. i'm seeing myself parked on the futon when the weather gets warmer for a few hours with a good wine and a good woman. stuff your table, you hippy.
