davinci's restaurant and cafe - 29 sturt st ballarat 3350 5333 4114

firstly, don't fucking go on about what we were doing in ballarat?! it's not the culinary capital of anywhere so we were not expecting very much. let's face it - there was a certain amount of desperation.

surprisingly, the pizza was bloody good. i say surprisingly because we melbournians can be an arrogant lot. we don't give the mullet-heads and bogans a chance before we bag their restaurants and bars. da vincis serves up a very good pizza. there, i've said it. it pains me so.

we had to move the vegetation to see the pizza but with some chilli oil (hold the oil, add the raw chilli) it was as good as we can get in the big smoke. go figure. after mucking around with their menu and ordering our own combinations of pasta and sauce, we were quite impressed with the pasta too. fuck me. two for two! add to that a very tasty bruschetta (sounds like brus'k'etta, you idiots!) with shaved parmesan (is there any other way?) and the whole emsemble was pretty fucking good. even for bogansville.

we had a glass of wine from the specials up on the board, over there, behind you. stay away from the menu wines - they look a bit on the crap side. service was fast, a little too fast. i just need a second to eat the last mouth...hey, give that back! slow it down a fraction, guys.

the chocolate cake is flourless. what is it with the flourless cakes? what's the attraction? is it tastier? is it lighter. no, they just leave out the flour. it's a bit like a veggie burger - it will still make you a fat bastard. you get cream or ice cream - more fat-arse food. the date and orange cake sounded like it had fruit on it. it tasted like more fat ass. did you know stressed is desserts spelled backwards? that said, enjoy the cakes, do some exercise tomorrow. really liked da vincis in ballarat. i wouldn't drive from melbourne to eat there but if you happen to be passing through, you could end up with botulism from some souva place or you could go to da vincis. bloody hell - a good review!
