cafe on auburn - 148 auburn road hawthorn 3122 9819 2277

after the awful (and very creepy) experience at auburn village deli, we headed (or ran) back up auburn road to the cafe. the cafe on auburn. which cafe? the one on auburn. opening on sunday only recently, cafe provides a breakfast alternative to the deli. mind you, i reckon a morgue on a slow day would be a better alternative to the deli.

the whole auburn experience seemd like a good idea at the time. well, it was an alternative to caramel (possibly the best brekkie and service around) but i guess caramel had set the bar a bit high.

likes - decor and speed of service. at least we got a friendly greeting and some immediate service. the coffee was good too and breakfast tasted like it was homemade which ain't all that bad.

dislikes - thin napkins, thin bread and a constant whistle near the front door (sounds like birdsong in true japanese fashion) grrrrrrr. what is it with the fucking bird whistle?!! it took me about twenty minutes to work out where it was coming from.

i can't decide whether i like cafe on aub or not. if i had the choice between places local to me and the cafe then it hasn't got a chance. if you find yourself in front of the deli, duck low, sprint 30 metres up the road to the cafe, dive and roll through the cafe door and order yourself a skinny decaf latte. and count yourself lucky.
