rivers of camberwell - 655 riversdale rd camberwell 3124 9888 6708

the business card is green - so it gets a tick of approval for that. (green being my favourite colour of course - tch, keep up!) of course. it's been in my wallet for a week now and i keep getting it confused with my coffee stamp card (also green) so i'll be glad to get rid of thing.

so, rivers. i went there for a brunch with another couple of friends of mine and it occurred to me that i must be getting old - brunch with another couple in camberwell on a sunday. hrmmm. and in fact, i think that just about sums up my entire feeling about the place.

the food was very good and made with organic produce. do you see what i'm saying here? organic produce. it's so, well, wanky, isn't it? add to that the fact that there's a room full of the stuff on display as well as produce lining every shelf, stair banister, and window ledge in the place, and it's getting pretty obvious, isn't it? an abundance of wankishness. as in, get in your urban cruiser with your housewife domestic goddess/high powered md and your 2.5 kids and don't give a moment's thought to how much it's going to cost you. i bought a packet of the cookies that were on the shelf next to our table and it was only later that i realised i'd paid 10 bucks for them. (and they weren't that good, either.)

but there were some nice things about the place. the food was definitely good, and they get a couple of extra points for the all day breakfast. it did feel very homey, especially in that it is really a converted terrace house. the courtyard is beautiful and it would be wonderful to sit out there on a nice day. (pity it's winter, eh?) and i should make a mention about the unisex bathroom arrangement i used to be a fan of these but now i'm not. see, i told you i'm getting old.

i guess i might go back when i'm having a grandpa day.
