what a crazy name! kuki tanuki?! like silius sodus or bigus dikus. eh, it’s joke name, sir. at least it’s not hard to remember :). anyway, i digress. kuki tanuki is a little japanese restaurant in erskineville in sydney. tucked away in erskineville village (where i like to spend a lot of my time with the best company in the world!), it’s open from 5pm until late, 6 nights a week.
for some reason, japanese restaurants all seem to be closed on mondays. i honestly think they don’t really know why they do that but they all do it so, just, yeah. don’t go on monday like we did a few weeks back. gahhhh! son of a…!!
seating is a little squeezy, especially in the front of the restaurant but there are large shared tables down the back. we’ve been to kuki three times; the first time we had to suffer some screeching, drunk cougars at the back but the last two times have been great. we loved the gyoza, the salmon and beef tataki (both of them), and the miso soup.
if you find yourself in erskineville and in need of a good feed, kuki is just great. and the fact that service is quick and it’s open late, it’s all good. however if you do happen to be a bunch of screeching, drunk cougars, please fuck off somewhere else. we ‘d like to retain our hearing.
